Cálix F/C - Somni Sounds
The Cálix is a sculptural instrument handcrafted by Somni Sounds, and it does something few instruments do: it answers movement. Play it still and you get clean, resonant harmonics with rich overtones and clear sustain. Move it as you play and the sound swells and drifts around the room.
Its two central notes are tuned a perfect fifth apart, F and C, an interval long associated with a settled, open feeling. Made from a resonant aluminium alloy and finely tuned by hand, it sits happily in sound healing sessions, yoga, dance and ambient music alike.
